Howstuffworks “Human Teleportation”

For a person to be transported, a machine would have to be built that can pinpoint and analyze all of the 1028 atoms that make up the human body.

So, is it even physically possible to teleport a human from one place to another, assuming that the teleportation of physically matter is achievable?

I first saw and heard about the Helio Air Display the other day on YouTube.com (one of my new favorites sites, as I’ve said in the past). I wanted to get more information on it, and found their site.

IO2 Technology develops technology relating to next-generation interfaces some of which are not currently available, one platform is–the Heliodisplay.Heliodisplay images are not holographic although they are free-space, employing a rear projection system in which images are captured onto a nearly invisible plane of transformed air. What the viewer sees is floating mid-air image or video. These projected images and video are two-dimensional, (i.e. planar) but appear 3D since there is no physical depth reference. While conventional displays have the benefit of being attached to a physical substrate, Heliodisplay projections are suspended in air, so you will notice some waviness to the quality of the projections.

The Heliodisplay interactive is like a virtual touchscreen for simple cursor control. A hand or finger can act as a mouse for cursor control interactivity in a computer environment. No special glove or pointing device is required. Just as you use a mouse to move the cursor on a traditional computer monitor, you can use your finger, hand, pen, pencil, scalpel, scissors etc. to move the cursor around on a computer environment (see: Images & Videos). The Heliodisplay connects to a computer (at least: Pentium III 400MHZ;25MB free disk space;Win2000/XP) through a USB port and standard computer cabl

The M2i Heliodisplay is the most advanced free-space display. The M2i supports up to a 30″ diagonal (4:3 aspect) image. The M2i utilizes cursor control interactive capabilities enabling ‘virtual’ control of the mouse to interact with floating images.

The Heliodisplay’s projected image hovers a few inches above the unit. The top of the image is 28″ above the top of the unit. The M2 is about the size of a tower desktop computer case turned on its side. Heliodisplays will work in well-lit environments such as trade show floors, and also low-light environments such as museums and nightclubs. As with any display technology, lower ambient light makes the image easier to see.The Heliodisplay is designed to be hidden (into a pedestal, table etc), so that only its projected image is visible. The display connects to a standard video source (such as DVD player or PC) and projects any images that would be viewable on a computer screen or television. No specialized hardware or software is needed to view images.

Scientist thinks invisibility possible in future - Yahoo News

LONDON Reuters - Its unlikely to occur by swallowing a pill or donning a special cloak, but invisibility could be possible in the not too distant future, according to research published on Monday.
Harry Potter accomplished it with his magic cloak. H.G. Wells Invisible Man swallowed a substance that made him transparent.

But Dr Ulf Leonhardt, a theoretical physicist at St Andrews University in Scotland, believes the most plausible example is the Invisible Woman, one of the Marvel Comics superheroes in the “Fantastic Four.”

“She guides light around her using a force field in this cartoon. This is what could be done in practice,” Leonhardt told Reuters in an interview. “That comes closest to what engineers will probably be able to do in the future.”

2-year Neanderthal genome project launches - Yahoo! News

BERLIN - U.S. and German scientists on Thursday launched a two-year project to decipher the genetic code of the Neanderthal, a feat they hope will help deepen understanding of how modern humans’ brains evolved.

Universe Today » Archive » Gigantic Ball of Fire Discovered

An international team of astronomers have discovered a massive gas ball hurtling through a distant galaxy cluster. This ball of gas is traveling more than 750 km/second (466 miles/second) through galaxy cluster Abell 3266. The enormous speed and pressure has heated the gas up to the point that it blazes in the X-ray spectrum. The discovery was made using ESA’s XMM-Newton X-ray satellite.

but this is truly awesome…

The gas ball is about three million light years across, or about five thousand million times the size of our solar system. It appears from our perspective as a circular X-ray glow with a comet-like tail nearly half the size of the moon.
