‘Lord of the Rings’ set traps actor’s leg – CNN.com

LONDON, England (AP) — A London performance of the “Lord of the Rings” musical ended abruptly with actors dressed as Hobbits, elves and dwarfs rushing to help a screaming cast member whose leg was trapped in set machinery.

*note to self — do not use real traps for on-stage musical performances.*

Man in wheelchair pushed down highway by semitrailer on Yahoo! News Photos

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Ben Carpenter got the ride of a lifetime when his
electric wheelchair became lodged in the grille of a semitrailer and
was accidentally pushed down a highway for several miles at about 50
mph. His father, Donald Carpenter, was incredulous when police called
to tell him his 21-year-old son was OK after the wild ride.

“I said, ‘What happened?’” Donald Carpenter recalled Thursday.

He said his son had started to cross Wednesday afternoon at an
intersection in Paw Paw, about 140 miles west of Detroit, where the
truck had stopped for a red light. The light changed to green while
Carpenter was still in front of the semi, which started moving forward.

The truck bumped into the side of the wheelchair, which then started
turning forward, its handles becoming lodged in the grille, the father
said. The wild ride had started.

yahoo fantasy football

That’s right fantasy football geeks like me, registration for Yahoo!’s free fantasy football starts NEXT WEEK as the screen shot indicates. Drafting now isn’t advised for competitive leagues, but the fact that it’s opening next week is a milestone that says “football season is near”. That’s right, friends, the hall of fame game is right around the corner (Sunday, August 5th).

I’m always open to joining a league — if you need another serious fantasy football player, send me an invite to brad.thomas@yahoo.com.

Disney Goes 2.0

This week, the Walt Disney Co. is beta launching a community site aimed at mothers. The site, which will be known as Family.com, was designed based on input from 30,000 mothers surveyed in the past year, as well as an advisory panel made up of “Mommy bloggers.”

According to Yahoo, Family.com is designed to be “a one-stop site for parents, especially mothers, providing everything from Internet search to user-generated articles on key topics such as education and food, and, eventually, a “ParentPedia,” a compilation of information on 1,000 topics that can be expanded by users.”

Looks like an interesting new site for families to visit.

Panthers to get a look at Jolley today

14 March 2007

The Herald – Life. Captured Every Day. – Serving York, Chester, and Lancaster Counties.

Jolley was originally the Raiders second-round pick in 2002 (55th overall). In five seasons, he has 120 receptions for 1,303 yards and six touchdowns.

Signing Doug Jolley would represent a change in offensive philosophy in Carolina. The team hasn’t had a decent pass-catching TE in nearly 7 seasons. Jeff Davidson, new Panthers OC and former TE coach for the Patriots, will bring his offense to the team, and this could be one of the first indications that a TE could be a focal point in the receiving mix.
