Two weeks ago, Chris Leak was the toast of college football.
Now, his national championship most valuable player trophy is on display at Independence High, which he led to three state championships.
This week, the former Florida quarterback is in Mobile, Ala., practicing for Saturday’s Senior Bowl.
Leak measured under 6′, which is the kiss-of-death for any QB trying to make it in the pros today. It may have pushed him out of the first day and into the second. The NFL has tended to favor taller QBs in recent years, right or wrong.
I think Leak has what it takes to be an NFL QB. I think if someone gave him a legitimage shot, they’d be pleasantly surprised. You can’t judge him by the offense he ran at Florida — that isn’t his style. I’m going to be very interested to see him play this weekend in the senior bowl, and I’ll be keeping a close eye on him at the combine.
