Charlotte Observer | 12/13/2006 | Bobcats dismiss attorney, publicist
Jonathan Fine, the Bobcats’ top attorney, was let go, as was Scott Leightman, the team’s vice president of public relations. Both were with the organization virtually from its outset.
Sources said the Bobcats told dismissed employees these were budget cuts.
Wow, more heads rolling in the Bobcats’ front office. I thought the Bobcats were doing a good job in regards to community relations and marketing their brand the last several months, fwiw.
Bonnell wrote a great opinion piece on 12/3 in which he publicly questioned Bobcats owner Bob Johnson about a letter he co-signed requesting financial help. I’d love to see some more follow up on this topic, especially now that more jobs have been cut.
Bonnell wrote:
“As reported, these owners want the large-market teams to re-distribute some local television and radio revenue to help the other teams be competitive. In the absence of such re-distribution or some remarkable luck (such as drafting and retaining the next Tim Duncan), the letter suggested dire consequences for the Bobcats and their brethren.”
I’d like to know the specifics of the deal that the Bobcats had with Time Warner that kept them off of a station that could be broadcasted on any cable or satellite provider. I’m sure we’ll probably never know, as they would cite that as private information. That kind of info would be helpful when you can compare it with what the “bigger market” teams are receiving.
