What is the problem? pt 1
Filed Under cool stuff | Leave a Comment
So many potential answers to this question: Jake not having faith in the other WRs, or just not Colbert and the recently departed Rod Gardner; The offensive line not opening holes for the running game; Running backs losing a step…
Or my favorite, Dan Henning and the Panthers offensive philosophy, playcalling and playbook are sub-standard.
Dan Henning, the Panthers Offensive Coordinator for the past four seasons was the Head Coach of the Atlanta Falcons from ‘83-’86 and the Chargers from ‘89-91. During those 7 seasons, Henning’s teams NEVER finished with a record of .500 or better. In fact, in those 7 seasons, the average win total was 5.4 games per season.
The average rank for his offenses were 20th out of 28 teams.
And let’s not forget his tenure with Boston College as head coach, where he went 16-19-1 over three seasons, including posting a 5-12 record in his final season. Henning resigned after that season, stating “I believe that someone else may be able to take a fresh approach that will benefit both Boston College and the players”.
Dan, the same thing need to happen in Carolina.
(I’ll post more on Henning as an OC later — still doing research, end of the day, etc.)

F*ck the referees
Filed Under cool stuff | Leave a Comment
It’s Tuesday. I’m still angry. If the Panthers were any team like the Steelers or the Giants or the Redskins, this would be the talk of the nation…
but they aren’t, and since they are in Charlotte, nobody gives a shit.
But the Panthers were royally screwed more than once last week against the Cowboys.
Sure, they surrendered 200 yards rushing, but that was also a product of several questionable calls by the officiating crew, giving Dallas several unfair advantages throughout the day.
The one play that I have in my head is where it was 3rd and long, Panthers have the Cowboys pinned deep in their territory. Bledsoe connected with a WR (I think Glenn) after he clearly pushed off from the DB and caught the ball. Not only did they credit Glenn for the catch, but they called PI on the Panthers DB — THEN on top of that, gave Dallas another 15 yards on a roughing the passer penalty against Al Wallace. Wallace incidentally hit Bledsoe helmet to helmet, but If I remember correctly, Bledsoe wasn’t even knocked off of his feet. The Cowboys then went on to score.
Another play, obviously, would be the blocked field goal. Had the panthers just let Cundiff make that kick, the game would be tied. But no — after the kick was blocked — and it was blocked if you watch the original live game tape — The referees call running into the kicker, after the kicker took a dive over Peppers and Lucas. Dallas gets 5 more yards, a first down, run time off the clock, and get a TD to win the game.
Let’s not even talk about Smith getting kicked out of the game. Sure, he “touched” the referee, but I’ve seen guys of other teams do that time and time again. Smith was drove head-first into the ground, out of bounds, and then hit again — out of bounds — and was pissed off that the referee didn’t do anything about it.
One thing is for sure — I hope we get the Cowboys again in the playoffs.

Panthers Send 4 Players to Pro Bowl

As the Carolina Panthers enters the home stretch in the NFL playoff race, there is only one goal that both Panther players and coaches are focused on achieving: winning the Super Bowl.
And since football is a team sport, accolades for individual player achievement are not nearly as important as success for the unit as a whole. However, when one team has FOUR players who are considered by fans, coaches and players to be among the NFL’s elite performers, such individual honors are usually indicative of a team that knows how to win.
And when the 2006 Pro Bowl rosters were announced, quarterback Jake Delhomme, defensive end Julius Peppers, wide receiver Steve Smith and guard Mike Wahle were all selected to represent the NFC in pro football’s all-star game.
This will be the first trip to Honolulu for Delhomme and Wahle, and the second for Smith and Peppers.
Quarterback Jake Delhomme has earned his spot with yet another impressive season, thus far throwing for 2,998 yards, and 20 touchdowns. Defensive end Julius Peppers is currently tied for the team lead with 7.5 sacks, while guard Mike Wahle has been an integral part of an offensive line that has allowed a scant 24 sacks in 14 games. To no one’s surprise, league leading wide receiver and MVP candidate Steve Smith will return to the Pro Bowl, who, through 14 games, has snagged an amazing 93 catches and netted 1,414 receiving yards.
There’s no doubt these four players have impressive numbers across the board, and it’s always good to know that you have guys on both sides of the football who can get the job done, but what’s most important to all of these guys is making that big trip to Detroit, and bringing the Lombardi trophy home to Charlotte.

CHARLOTTE BOBCATS: Bobcats Blog Squad - Brad Thomas Blog - NEW 12/20/05: “After some scathing words yesterday, I thought it would only be right to come back today with words of praise. Last night, this team hustled and won, despite playing without several key players.
Primoz Brezec put his money where his mouth is. He came out and played aggressively, atoning for the team’s poor effort on Saturday.
‘I think everyone gave 110 percent, and that’s what we needed,’ Brezec said. ‘We’re going to Chicago tomorrow for a back-to-back, and everybody is going to have to step his game up.’”

CHARLOTTE BOBCATS: Bobcats Blog Squad - Brad Thomas Blog - NEW 12/19/05:
“One thing fans could count on with this team was that they would work and play hard. Saturday I didn’t see it, and I was disappointed. I’ve seen this team out-hustle and out-heart teams many times in the past, only to come out on the losing end — but at least they showed the effort. As long as they did that, the fans would support them. This weekend against the Pistons, it seemed like the Bobcats had left early for Christmas break and had some doppelgangers going through the motions for them.
‘The effort early in that basketball game, particularly in that first quarter, was probably the worst I’ve ever seen from a Bobcats team,’ Head Coach Bernie Bickerstaff said after the game.
That wasn’t even the worst part about the loss. The worst part was that it was in front of a sellout crowd in the new arena. People have become accustomed to the Bobcats playing hard, and that’s why they come to see them.
It’s not because we expect them to win — we just want them to play hard. There wasn’t any effort, and for me, a guy who touts the Bobcats as a hustling team, it was embarrassing.”

If you didn’t know it, Thomas Davis played all of 10 snaps yesterday on Defense.
Why? I guess because of the QB and the scheme we play. Davis isn’t a good cover-safety, and he’s mainly a blitzing linebacker…. and seeing how the Panthers didn’t blitz most of the day, his services weren’t needed.
So, tell me again why Davis was drafted in the mid first round? Don’t give me this garbage about this being a deeply talented team — that is BS. I really would like to know why Davis was drafted in the first place if he’s not going to freakin’ play.
The 2005 draft will go down as one of the biggest wastes in Panthers history, and it will effect this team in 2-3 years when the players they should have gotten were supposed to start… but they don’t have them, so they’ll have to spend money to get guys that will be able to start.

CHARLOTTE BOBCATS: Bobcats Blog Squad - Brad Thomas Blog - NEW 12/6/05: “I sat down and was ready to write my weekly blog post, and Rich Giunta, one of the administrators of BobcatsFans.com sent me an instant message… so then I had the bright idea - let’s blog the discussion Rich and I were having, since it’s Bobcats related:
Brad: So, are you tired? I’m tired… staying up late to watch the Bobcats games out on the West Coast. I really thought they’d pull one out during this trip.
Rich: Well they had a few opportunities to eek out a win but just came up short. I’ve stayed up late to watch them, and it looked like some of the Bobcats were staying up late with me… you could tell some were fatigued. One thing I will say however is, despite his shooting woes, Okafor has quietly increased his blocks per game… he swatted six in Golden State.”
make sure you read the whole thing… pretty decent convo going on there…

So by the time i got home, i had nobody to interview (It is the interview day) So, i went searching on the net, and at the last minute i found Brad Thomas from http://www.Pantherfreaks.com. Brad also writes at PantherInsider.com So Ladies (all 4 of you) and gents we have a celebrity in the house! Brad did a great job in this interview. To bad he’s writing checks that his ass can’t cash
”
Read this article written by a Falcons blogger who interviewed me this week. Although it’s not verbatim the conversation, you can feel the smugness come through the computer screen. Erik was nice enough to talk to, though. To bad the Panthers served him a can of shut the hell up.
It’s nice to wax that ass, isn’t it? Vick was bitch-slapped down by the Panthers defense, and the Falcons defense was run over by DeShaun Foster.
I like how he refers to the panthers as the “panties” in his blog… nice.
I guess that would make his team the FoulCunts — because the Panties had them wrapped-up and locked-down all day long.
Erik: Oh, he’s bold. What kind of mistakes are we talking about?
Brad: Interceptions. Plural
Erik: Oh, but Brad, he doesn’t throw many of those
Brad: He doesnt throw much of anything
